 Terrazzo originated from Venice, Italy in the mid-16th  century. Terrazzo, which means “terrace”, was once made  by pressing marble pieces into a clay surface and sealing  it off with goat milk for a mosaic-like finish, creating  inexpensive flooring at the time. Today terrazzo is poured in-place by installers, cured, and ground to create a  smooth, polished surface.  

 Terrazzo is a composite material, poured  in place or prefabricated in the form of  precast, consisting of marble, granite,  pebbles, shells or glass combined with a  cement or epoxy matrix.
